Stainless Steel Storage Tank
A stainless steel storage tank is built from austenitic or duplex stainless for service where hygiene, strength and temperature/pressure capability matter more than resistance to aggressive acids. Common grades: SS304 for general food and water duty; SS316L (molybdenum-bearing, low carbon) for pharmaceutical, mildly corrosive and coastal/marine-cautious service; duplex 2205 where higher strength and corrosion resistance are needed.
Construction & Finish
- Cylindrical or rectangular; atmospheric or pressurized.
- Sanitary finishes (polished internal surfaces), CIP spray balls, insulated jackets available.
- Manways, agitator mounts and instrument nozzles per process.
Important Limitation — Stainless Is Not Universal
Stainless resists many media but is not corrosion-proof. It is susceptible to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking in chloride-rich or acidic-chloride environments — 304 is the most sensitive, 316L extends resistance but is still limited, especially at elevated temperature or high chloride concentration. It is not suitable for hydrochloric acid, strong sulphuric acid above moderate concentration, or fluoride-bearing streams. For strong acids and high-chloride liquors, choose PP/PPH or FRP instead.
