A silicon carbide heat exchanger resists the most aggressive media — concentrated acids, halides and high-chloride streams — at temperatures where stainless steel and PP/PPH fail. Custom-engineered to your duty.
Silicon Carbide Heat Exchanger
A silicon carbide (SiC) heat exchanger is built from a material that is inert to almost all corrosive chemicals — including concentrated hydrochloric, sulphuric and nitric acids, halides and high-chloride brines — at temperatures far beyond the limits of stainless steel and polypropylene. Where metallic and plastic exchangers degrade, SiC keeps operating, making it the solution for the harshest duties in chemical and high-purity processing.
Why Silicon Carbide
- Near-universal chemical resistance: inert to most acids, alkalis and solvents, including aggressive halogenated media.
- High-temperature capability: stable well above the service limits of PP/PPH and competitive with — often exceeding — metals in corrosive heat.
- High thermal conductivity: efficient heat transfer for a ceramic material, enabling compact designs.
- Hard and abrasion-resistant: withstands particle-laden and slurry streams better than many linings.
- Non-contaminating: inert surface suits high-purity and pharmaceutical duties.
Where SiC Fits (vs our other exchangers)
| Exchanger type | Best for |
|---|---|
| Silicon carbide (this page) | Extreme corrosion + high temperature; concentrated acids, halides |
| Stainless steel shell & tube | Oxidizing media (nitric, chromic), medium-high temp, sanitary |
| PP/PPH shell & tube | Non-oxidizing acids/alkalis, low-to-medium temp, light & low cost |
| Spiral plate | High-viscosity, fouling-prone, slurry, small ΔT heat recovery |
Typical Applications
- Concentrated acid cooling / heating (HCl, H2SO4, HNO3)
- Chlor-alkali and high-chloride process streams
- Acid recovery and regeneration loops
- High-purity and pharmaceutical heat transfer
- Pre-treatment before falling film absorbers on aggressive duties
